Hopefully, you were able to attend the Mountain Film Festival hosted
by the Cashiers Village Council. Over 550 people enjoyed
the two-night affair that included live music, food, and awardwinning
nature films under the stars. The event brought friends and
families together to enjoy the outdoors in a way perfectly fitting for
Cashiers.
Yet, the need to actively sustain the existing charm of Cashiers is
greater than ever. The latest evidence of outside forces pushing into
our town is a Starbucks expected to be built inside our Ingles store
this fall. We look at this news as a signpost of the pressures to come.
In ten years time, will we nostalgically look back to now when we
"were" a unique charming quiet mountain town without the
pressure, speed, and commerce that exists everywhere else?
"Sustainable Tourism", simply defined, involves strengthening the
economic, environmental, and social aspects of our town equally.
Strong local-owned businesses existing in balance with strong ties to
our natural landscapes and mountain history is the best way to keep
the "real world" at bay and remain exceptional.
The Cashiers Village Council exists as the forum for the work of
ensuring a strong, vibrant, natural setting for the next generation.
We cannot do this without your financial support.
Over the past three years, we have demonstrated leadership and
effectiveness in our initiative areas. The following pages provide a
snapshot of who we are, what we have accomplished, and what
needs to be done to provide for the future of Cashiers.
